Meet Charlie Taylor, Executive and Trauma Therapist based in Redondo Beach, CA.

From the outside, it might appear like you’re living an ideal life; meanwhile, things are a bit chaotic on the inside.  That same fire from within that drives you also pushes you to the brink of burnout.  You try to keep it all under control, but it can be overwhelming.

You’re probably already aware of your problems and even have a good idea of what you need to be doing differently.  You’ve read all the self-help books and watched videos on personal growth and mindfulness.  You may have tried organizational tactics like planners, habit trackers, and wellness apps.  Maybe you’ve met with other therapists.  But the relief that you received was only temporary.

I’m no stranger to what you’re going through.  After exiting the military, I spent years in universities. I landed my dream job but found myself on the verge of burnout.  I’ve taken on upper management roles where I was taught to accelerate companies’ performance at the expense of my personal work–life balance.  From these experiences, I have learned how to recalibrate my life, balancing out each part rather than just fueling one.  Since then, I have loved sharing new insights and resources on achieving balance, whether in a career or as a parent, partner, or friend.  As a veteran, having experienced the psychological toll caused by active duty, I also understand the core elements of trauma and how to move beyond them, using this experience to better our lives rather than weigh us down—it’s called post–traumatic growth.  I also know what it’s like to marry into a different culture with different religious perspectives and how to balance out our individual goals with our relationship goals.

In other words, I have been there too.  If you have felt misunderstood by colleagues, friends, relatives, or other therapists, I want you to know I will always do my best to help you feel seen and understood.

What’s it like to work with me?

Therapy with me is a safe place where you are allowed to be imperfect and explore your human side.  You can share your story, relax, cry, laugh, and grow into the person you want to be.

I know that you have the ability to thrive under the right circumstances and heal.  So I focus on creating a compassionate environment for you to safely explore your thoughts and emotions.  Once you experience unconditional positive regard, you’ll begin to outgrow the harsh inner critic and tap into your full potential.

Similar to tidying up your home, we’ll work on your mental space.  I’ll help you examine the beliefs and stories you hold about yourself so you can let go of those narratives that no longer serve you.  This new space will make room for new energy and a renewed focus to support your well-being.

How am I equipped to serve your needs?

  • To understand a client’s obstacles, build rapport, and enable the client to build the roadmap toward a new future, one needs to be well versed in mainstream therapeutic tactics such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, family systems theory, and emotion-focused couples therapy. A therapist must also understand physical wellness, including exercise and mindfulness strategies, such as posture, breathing and meditation techniques.

  • More importantly, as an executive who has built a family in the LA South Bay community, I understand the hardships of building a strong family. My academic, leadership, and family background suits this line of work. So you can expect me to pull you back or push you forward to best suit your needs.

  • Clients describe my therapy practice as a warm and comforting blanket. They come to me for answers and know that when they ask me something, I give them the honest feedback they are looking for. I challenge clients when necessary and prepare them to face challenges with a clear head.

Why the Determined Clinic?

Painful experiences can shatter our world.  After a death, job loss, divorce, trauma, or diagnosis, we are left holding the broken fragments of our lives.  Each piece packs its own punch.

Together, we can examine these painful pieces so that you can begin to heal.  The power of the healing process is that the pieces become part of the bigger picture and not your whole world.  The picture you had of yourself won’t go back to the way it was, but maybe it doesn’t need to.  You won’t feel pain for what was but instead the excitement for what can be.  In therapy, we turn the page to form a new beautiful picture. Our determination is the vessel that allows us to travel away from the past toward a better future.
